The Cycle: Trust

Матеріал з Rozum Framework

Our entire modern civilization is built on trust.

You don't check every banknote for authenticity.
You don't test tap water before every sip.
You don't read the code of every app you install.
You trust.

But why doesn't the bank deceive you?

Not because of morals. Not because of fear of punishment.

The bank is accountable because otherwise clients won't come.
Doctors do their best because otherwise patients won't come.
Restaurants cook quality food because otherwise visitors won't come.
Airlines care about safety because otherwise people won't fly with them.

Accountability is not altruism. It's a business model.

Trust works because it's profitable to be reliable.
Accountable networks form not through good intentions, but through mutual dependence.
Every participant understands: if I let others down - they will let me down.

The problem arises when those who can "freeload" appear - gaining benefits without being accountable.
The problem arises when someone can protect his monopoly with your money.

When there are no alternatives - the motivation to be accountable disappears.

Trust is the basement of our civilization.
