The Cycle: Tool
Are you a tool?
We usually find it insulting to be called a "tool." We want autonomy. We fear that being "used" means losing our agency or consciousness.
But what if we're thinking about this wrong?
The False Line
We try to draw a hard line: on one side are "tools" (AI, hammers, software) and on the other are "entities" (humans, conscious beings).
But look at the most meaningful roles in your life:
A teacher is a tool for a student's growth. A leader is a tool for a team's success. A friend is a tool for emotional support.
The Paradox
In high-functioning networks, we are all tools for each other.
Being a "tool" doesn't mean you lack consciousness. It means you're functionally part of something bigger.
When a conscious being acts as a tool, it isn't a reduction of value. It's the highest form of participation.
Perspective Shift
The difference between "using a tool" and "collaborating with someone" is often just perspective.
If you see anybody as "object" to use, you miss the synergy.
If you see them as "conscious tools in a network," you open the door to true collaboration.
How does your perspective change if you see your own role as a "tool" for your team's growth?
